7 Months and Curls

7 months. Wow. We are past the half-way mark to 1 year. Lots of firsts this past month.

She:

-has a routine down-3 naps a day

-sleeps through the night 6pm-6am-no middle of the night wake-ups

-loves sweet potatoes and mangoes, undecided about bananas and avocados

-prefers to sit rather than lie on her back

-says "aim," "buh," "umph," and "pfistsft"

-cries whenever we leave the room (ugh)

-nods her head when she hears music

-imitates us slapping our thighs

-sleeps on her belly

-does not have any teeth but is gnawing on everything

-looks when her name is called about 50% of the time

-is learning the sign for "eat"

Curls-these little ringlets are starting to form all over her head. So. Darn. Cute.

A Year Late...

but still somewhat tasty. In keeping with tradition, Randy and I kept the top layer of our wedding cake in the freezer to be eaten on our first anniversary. Well, Randy wasn't here on our first anniversary, so for the past 2 YEARS, this cake box has been sitting there taking up precious space. On Monday night we finally opened the box and ate it. It actually didn't taste too badly considering we kept the roses on it. Not sure why we did that. ?

A Little Visit

Martha and Mike (Grammy and Grandpa) are here for a visit from Boise. Yesterday we walked around Santana Row and today we shopped for dinner at the Farmer's Market in downtown Campbell (photos later).

Back to Work

Today is Randy's first day back to CVT since coming home. He is looking forward to seeing everyone from work again, but he said he is going to miss spending so much time with Hattie. We enjoyed chocolate croissants and coffee for breakfast, then he made his way to Palo Alto. Today hasn't been the same without him.

Toes...Yum!

In Idaho Hattie learned how to grab her toes and suck on them. I have to admit, I have been waiting for this skill to emerge. I have always thought it was so cute when I saw babies doing this. She enjoys gnawing on her big toe. The best part is when she is wearing socks and tries to stick her foot in her mouth. She gets a "yuck" look on her face.

Sweet Potatoes

I'm interrupting Idaho updates with a few photos we took of Hattie today. We fed her sweet potatoes for the first time. The only other "solid" food she has eaten has been rice cereal. If this goes well, we will be introducing either bananas or avocados next. She seemed to enjoy them and even reached for the container a few times. We pureed the potato ourselves. We are planning to make most of her food. The process of microwaving the potato (my favorite way to cook) and then blending was fairly simple. We have a book called, "Super Baby Food" and it outlines which foods to introduce and how to make everything. So far so good.

A Birthday Celebration

While we were in Idaho, Mike celebrated his birthday. Hattie made him a card, Randy made dinner and everyone had a wonderful time at his party. Unfortunately, at the last minute, Mike had to return to Boise. Sorry Mike, but we had a great time.

Back From Idaho

We are back from Idaho. Lots of things to share. We had a great time. The weather was perfect, the food was delicious and the company was fun. We drove 10 or so hours to get to Boise first. We stayed with Martha and Mike for the first week. These pictures are from the MK Nature Center in Boise. There are some very cool exhibits there including these very large animals. As you can see, Hattie did not seem to be bothered by them; though Randy seems a little scared.

6 Months and Another Uh...Oh

Hattie has learned so many new skills in just this past week. She is more aware of her environment and can entertain herself for long periods of time. She is a joy to be around.

She:

-can sit up all by herself (Grammy taught her)

-is consistently rolling from her back to her tummy, but still requires help to roll the other way

-was sleeping from 6pm-6am before arriving in Idaho (woohoo). In Idaho she sleeps anywhere from 6pm-8pm and wakes up at 11pm, 1am, 3am, 5am, 7am (boohoo)

-loves watching dogs and laughs hysterically at them

-will be starting solids soon

-can put her toes into her mouth

-is a great traveler in her carseat during long car drives

We have begun a tradition when traveling to or from Idaho-we must get a ticket. This time Randy got one leaving Winnemucca, NV for driving 40 in a 25. Last year he got one in Cascade, ID. (See January 2007) I wonder where we will get our next one.

Gotta Love Hand Me Downs

A friend of a friend (thanks Amy and Tilena) gave us this Exersaucer for Hattie to play with. At about 5 months she was finally strong enough to sit up in it. She grabs and spins the toys and pushes buttons to make music play. Her max is about 20 minutes before she wants out-just enough time for us to eat dinner.

Half Moon Bay

Last week we took Hattie to the beach for the first time. Unfortunately it was a little cold and the sun was too bright, so she was not impressed. She did, however, love the shopping down Main St.

Baby Storytime

Every Wednesday, Hattie and I go to Baby Storytime at the Saratoga Library. The librarian blows bubbles, sings songs and reads books. Hattie is more fascinated with the other children than the stories.
