Tot School- Family

We started a new theme this month, well a few new themes. The first week in November we learned about "Families," Week 2 we will be learning about "Pilgrims", Week 3-"Native Americans", Week 4-"Thanksgiving" and Week 5-"Family" again. The science theme for the month is "Water." We will also continue with our reading, math, handwriting and Core Knowledge assignments.

We started off the week with graphing and charting our
Halloween candy. We sorted by type, then graphed on this
chart. I think I ate half before we even got to this project.

We finished our lesson on Paul Klee. We looked up his place of
birth on a map. Hattie then traced a head, drew facial features,
I blocked off sections of the paper and then she used watercolors
to paint. I modified this idea for this project.

Here is her finished painting of "Head
of a Man", and here is the original.

As part of our "Family" theme, she drew a family portrait of
us. I love how she drew the baby in my belly. This one I am
framing.

She looked through magazines and chose
pictures of families and then I cut them out.
She glued them and then we discussed what
families can do together. She said we: garden,
play dress up, read books, cook and play.

We also read the book, "Peter's Chair" by Ezra Jack Keats.
We used activities from the book, "Peak With Books" to
form some lessons. One of the lessons we chose to do was
to walk around the house and find items she no longer needs
or uses to give to the baby. She chose a stuffed toy, diaper, wipes
and Celie's blanket. I thought it was funny she chose her sister's
and not her own.

For science this month we are learning about the properties
of water. The first experiment taught us that adding heat to
water produces steam.

The second experiment taught us that as moisture cools,
clouds form. She also learned a new word: condensation.

A few random activities from this week were: following a
coloring page that included family relationships, making
play dough letters, forming ABB patterns and learning about
pennies.
