We had a lot of fun with this week's theme: "Peter and the Wolf". A few weeks ago, Hattie and I went to a ballet performance of "Peter and the Wolf." She loved it. I loved it. So I looked more into it and found several sources for not only teaching your children about the story itself, but the instruments of the orchestra. We borrowed the cd from the library,
Maestro Classics
and we listened to it over and over. Hattie learned the names of all of the instruments and can tell you which character is associated with which instrument. She keeps asking when we are going to learn about a new musical story. Fortunately for us, our library carries many of the other stories on cd so I'm sure we will be borrowing more this summer. Links to other sources are on the bottom of the page.

Liam came over and the kids made
wolf puppets. In this picture they are howling.
Matching characters to instruments
It was her idea to make the characters into puppets and tell her own story

What a fun and special memory to share with your daughter! I love the wolf puppets-those are sweet!
She and Celie (maybe Cole?)--and Mom and Dad?-- will almost be ready for the Nutcracker Suite by the holidays--we have such great memories of a performance of that one year in San Francisco with Randy (about 12 or 13?) and Grant (10 or 11-ish) and Sara (about 7 or 8), which stands out in my mind as a highlight of her childhood. The trip was our Christmas gift from the Los Banos Fawcetts. Maybe you want to wait until the girls are a bit older, although with their ballet training, they would love it, I think.

We have several of the Maestro Classics cds. Not Peter and the Wolf though. It's on our wish list.
I clicked on U-tube and saw Peter and the Wolf. I Loved it too. Great characters and story, loved the musical instruments as well. Love Grandpa and Grandma
