Ladybugs

In the month of May, we will be studying insects, bugs, and other crawly things. This week we focused on ladybugs.
Liam came over and they made ladybugs out of paper plates.
Hattie colored a ladybug page and practiced her addition skills by adding black spots after she rolled dice.
She counted spots on ladybugs and wrote the numerals.

She made ABB patterns with her unifix cubes and colored a ladybug worksheet to match

Colored pages to a ladybug life cycle booklet. We watched this clip on Youtube about ladybugs.
After we read the book, "The Grouchy Ladybug" by Eric Carle, she matched the times in the book to a clock.
Another life cycle booklet.
If you don't own the book, "The Grouchy Ladybug", I found this on Youtube.  A narrator reads the story and shows the pictures. She decided she wanted to read along with the video and the book.

I ordered caterpillars from insectlore.com, and they just arrived. We will be studying the life cycle of a butterfly later this month. We are all super excited to watch these things grow and change.

Great unit!!

We love growing caterpillars. Last year we did painted ladies, monarchs, and lady bugs. (My oldest was studying flying creatures last year.) Lady bugs are not so cute in the other stages. LOL
